Alimony is spousal support. It can be paid by a wife or by a husband. It is taxable to the person to whom it is paid and tax deductible to the person paying it. Alimony is based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, length of marriage, health, disparity in income and the cause of the marital breakdown.
